How To Choose Your First Kayak

Buying your first kayak can be an exhilarating yet overwhelming experience. With so many options on the market, it’s easy to feel lost.

Here at NTB we have a range of kayaks to meet everyones needs.

For those who want to go out on their own to those who want to share the experience with a partner or child.

Sit On or Sit In? What's the difference?

Well Sit On Kayaks are easier to get in and out. Most likely you would of rented a sit on kayak in the past. An example of a sit on kayak is our Torrent.

Sit In Kayaks, you have to get in to the kayak itself, your legs and feet are covered, usually would where a spray skirt to protect you from the water. Our sit in kayaks are our whitewater kayaks.

We also have different types of kayaks, like mentioned, whitewater kayaks, fishing kayaks, touring kayaks and recreational kayaks.

Our sit on top recreational kayaks are our best sellers, like the Torrent.
For those new to kayaking or those have been kayaking for a while, the Torrent is robust, super stable and has incredible bundles that come with all you need to get out on the water.

Key Features to Consider

Stability

Stability is crucial, especially for beginners. Wider kayaks tend to be more stable but may sacrifice speed. If you plan to paddle on rougher waters, prioritise stability.

Comfort

Look for adjustable seats with good back support. Comfort is vital, especially for longer paddling sessions. Some kayaks come with padded seats and thigh straps for enhanced comfort and control.

Storage

Consider how much gear you’ll need to bring along. If you’re planning longer trips, look for kayaks with multiple storage hatches and bungee cords for securing items.

Weight and Portability

Think about how you’ll transport your kayak. Lightweight options are easier to carry and load onto vehicles, while heavier models might require a kayak cart or additional help.
